Welcome to the Sam Nujoma Campus of the University of Namibia. We hope that you will find our website informative and easy to navigate. The Research and Development (R and D) activities at SANUMARC include marine, coastal and arid land ecosystems, climate change, bio-prospecting for novel natural products from cold water marine biota, and also from desert and semi-desert systems. The ultimate goal of the Centre is to develop the unique bio-resources of these ecosystems for human sustainable development, and to promote the application of science and technology for making selected sites in Africa's deserts bloom with useful biota, using the Zero Emissions Research Initiative (ZERI) principles and related approaches. A major addition that encompasses all these research activities is the Community Outreach programme, which supports the University of Namibia community service initiatives to promote conservation and sustainable utilization of marine and coastal resources.
The undergraduate honours programme is unique in the region as it offers students a multidisciplinary approach to studying the broad area of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences through modules covering the natural, technical and social sciences. The Sam Nujoma offers a very ideal place for students to conduct their practical and research activities on the Namibia unique marine ecosystem.
We are also proud to have trained students from other SADC countries such as Angola, Zambia, Tanzania, and Mauritius in our programme, who have all since returned to their respective countries where they have taken up significant positions in their respective institutions. The research based postgraduate programmes are designed to meet needs of government and private organisations wanting specific research answers to issues concerning the Namibian marine ecosystem.
We are optimistic that you will find our research and academic programme at the Sam Nujoma Campus rewarding should you decide to join us.
