MATURE AGE ENTRY SCHEME

What is and why mature age entry scheme?The Mature Age Entry Scheme is an alternative admission route for prospective students not in possession of a Grade 12 Certificate or for those with a Grade 12 Certificate who does not fulfil the minimum admission criteria based on Grade 12.

Mature Age Admission Requirements (General)

Candidates aspiring for admission to UNAM’s undergraduate programmes through the Mature Age Entry Scheme must satisfy the following conditions:

  • They should be at least 25 years old on the first day of the academic year in which admission is sought;
  • They should preferably have successfully completed junior secondary education (senior secondary education for School of Medicine, School of Pharmacy, Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology, Bachelor of Accounting (Chartered Accountancy), Bachelor of Law (Honours)); and
  • They should normally have proof of at least five years relevant work experience relating to the proposed study programme.

The applicants will be required to complete an online Mature Age Entry Application Forms and submit electronically.  In the event where no internet is available, prospective students may complete a manual form (can be downloaded from the UNAM Website) and return it to any Campus or Centre, accompanied by a processing fee as well as relevant documentation (as stipulated in the Application Form). They will then sit for the Mature Age Entry Test, which will consist of three / four papers

  • (a) Paper 1: An English Test;
  • (b) Paper 2: A General Knowledge Test;
  • (c) Paper 3: A Numerical Ability Test;
  • (d) Paper 4: A Faculty Specific Test (where applicable).

Candidates who, in the opinion of the relevant Faculty, merit further consideration may be called for an interview before the final selection is made.

Mature Age Admission Requirements (Qualification specific)

Applicants applying for the School of Medicine should be in possession of a Grade 12 Certificate. Candidates should pass all papers as set out above, with an overall average of 60%.

Applicants applying for the School of Pharmacy should be in possession of a Grade 12 Certificate. Candidates should pass all papers as set out above, with an overall average of 55%.

Applicants applying for the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology, Bachelor of Accounting (Chartered Accountancy) and the Bachelor of Laws (Honours) should be in possession of a Grade 12 Certificate. Candidates should pass all papers as set out above, with an overall average of 60%.

Pass criteria for other Faculties are available from the respective Faculties.
