About SHINE Namibia

SHINE (Sustainable Strategies for the Internationalization of Higher Education Towards Excellence in Namibia) is a CBHE Axis 1 project that aims to strengthen and harmonize the internationalization efforts of Namibian universities to improve educational quality, employability, research prospects, and international collaboration. In line with the national priorities set out in Namibia’s Vision 2030 and with EU priorities (including the Global Gateway Africa-Europe initiative and the flagship initiative “Youth Mobility for Africa”), the consortium will commit to transforming the Namibian higher education system.

This will be achieved through two specific objectives:

1. improve the institutional capacities of Namibian higher education institutions to successfully plan, implement and evaluate internationalization activities, including consolidating international relations structures and establishing comprehensive internationalization strategies; and
2. to foster the development of a globalized and inclusive learning environment by training and engaging staff, faculty members and students from different campuses in establishing a national roadmap for internationalization in Namibia.

To address these objectives, the project brings together a consortium that effectively represents the various stakeholders relevant to the internationalization of higher education in Namibia: four Namibian higher education institutions with experience and expertise in the field, the National Students’ Association, with a proven track record in advocating for student interests and an extensive network of contacts, and the Ministry of Higher Education, Technology and Innovation; in addition to two EU partners with broad experience in the area to guide the process. Furthermore, SHINE is linked to decolonized internationalization, which will be ensured by respecting and promoting indigenous knowledge frameworks and by conducting project activities primarily in Namibia, with a strong focus on satellite campuses to guarantee access to internationalization opportunities for all students and staff.
