Annually Junior and Senior Boer Goat Judging Courses of one week are presented to students and farmers who are interested. The courses to select the best animals are presented by Boer Goat Inspectors of the Boer Goat Breeding Society of Namibia. This assists future farmers and community members to judge animals.
Selection of Boer Goat and Kalahari Reds for stud breeding takes place when animals are between 10 and 24 months old. Stud animals are registered at a Breeding Association. Only animals with the ideal characteristics are selected for breeding.
Annual Auctions of Livestock (small stock and large stock) are hosted at “old” Neudamm. Quality breeding stock is provided to Namibian Farmers at competitive prices and valuable income is generated for the University. At the same time students receive practical training in auction procedures.
The envisaged School of Veterinary Medicine which is to be established soon will start with new and sophisticated techniques in Artificial Insemination, Pregnancy Diagnosis of Cattle and In Vitro Fertilization to streamline and improve livestock production. Students also receive practical hands-on training and the farming community will be engaged in activities of animal health and animal welfare.
In October 2013 the 100 years’ existence of the Afrikaner Cattle Breeders’ Society of Namibia was commemorated at “Old” Neudamm by having an Afrikaner Information Day and an elite Auction the next day. Afrikaner Stud Cattle from Neudamm were used for demonstration and also participated in the very successful Auction. In June 2014 the infrastructure at “Old” Neudamm and some animals from the Afrikaner Cattle Stud will be used again to host a follow-up Information Day.
Neudamm is renowned for its annual participation in the Windhoek Industrial and Agricultural Show which is usually held in October. Neudamm especially performs with Damara sheep and Kalahari Red Goats. Afrikaner Stud Cattle and Karakul sheep also scored many medals and certificates in the past. This event is usually a show-case of the exceptional animals being bred at Neudamm.
