Welcome to the University of Namibia’s Katima Mulilo Campus. The campus started as a teacher training facility known as the Katima Mulilo Teachers’ Training Centre (later as Caprivi College of Education) in the 1970s offering certificate programmes only: firstly the Lower Primary Teachers’ Certificate (LPTC), followed by the Primary Teachers’ Certificate (PTC), which ran concurrently with the Junior Secondary Teachers’ Course (JSTC). Then the Education Certificate Primary (ECP) followed.
In 1980, the above certificate programmes were phased out and replaced by the National Education Certificate (NEC) which was developed by the then Academy for Tertiary Education. At independence an interim course, the National Higher Education Certificate (NHEC) was introduced while another programme, the Basic Education Teachers’ Diploma (BETD) was being developed. The BETD was implemented in 1993/4 and replaced all initial programmes that existed before.
