The Software Development Centre (SDC) was established to identify promising software related applications emanating from the research activities of the School of Computing, and further develop it for commercialization purposes. We have realized that the Research activities of the School of Computing have a potential to contribute to the improvement of the software products and services in our country and the region. The SDC integrates a system for introducing students to software development processes in real settings. The SDC guarantee quality and proper execution of its strategic processes. All Staff members of the School of Computing contribute in some ways to the Software Development Centre.
Mission
To develop state-of-the-art software products, services and solutions for managing organizations; to contribute to the professional training of students; to develop promising entrepreneurial applications; to encourage start-ups and spin-offs; to position UNAM in the national and international software development market.
Vision
To be a Centre of Excellence in developing certified software products, services and solutions that are of national and regional relevance.
Functions
The functions of the Software Development Centre are to:
- coordinate software production processes, research, and training
- manage the development of products and services to meet the agreed scope and time deadlines
- contribute to the comprehensive training of competent professionals
- assure quality of the software development processes and products
- introduce products and solutions in the community, as a result of research and development
- provide information services and technical support associated with the solutions and products delivered to customers.
- promote cooperation and collaboration with national and international organizations
- conduct technological surveillance related to the software development process and implementation of products and solutions
- serve as support to the Namibian software development industry
