The Department of Biological Sciences has a high research output and produced the most publications within the Faculty of Science in peer-reviewed journals during the past five year. Research collaboration exists within and outside Namibia. At the University of Namibia the Department does collaborative research with the Multi-Disciplinary Research Division, the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, the Schools of Medicine and Pharmacy and the Faculties of Education and of Agriculture and Resource Management.
Continuous commitment and dedication of staff members ensure active involvement of staff in research and production of a high output of publications. Publication output of the Department varies annually between 20 and 50 and has been increasing recently. During 2008 a total of 17 articles have been published in refereed journals, while in 2010 the Department produced 23 articles in refereed journals. During 2013, 30 papers have been published. Members of departments also attend and do presentations at National and international conferences. On average in the past three years members of the department attended a total of 15-25 conferences per year. Conferences were attended in Namibia, other African countries as well as in Europe, China, India and the USA.
